Aw.
Our first cat used to sleep on my pillow every night. Then we left him with my mom while we went to Europe for three months. We came home and he wouldn't sleep anywhere near us for about six months. He came around eventually and started sleeping on our bed again. But they do hold grudges and seem to sense when things are changing and not going back to the way they were.

I think he is comforting you.

It's rough - they definitely like their things the way they like them. My little black and white buddy is pretty much joined at the hip with me. If I'm not here, she wanders around the house crying as if her heart were broken.
