I awoke this morning to learn that someone near and dear, to someone near and dear to me, has made a bad decision. A VERY bad decision. A decision that will haunt her and the people around her until the end of time.
I then learned that the park where I hold my day camp will not be quite so intimate this year. The park is large and includes baseball fields. We do not reserve the baseball fields. In years past (10 of them) the baseball fields have been empty. Today I learned that there will be baseball games and 100ish extra people in the park Monday – Wednesday. This is not as big a deal as the fact that they expect 500 extra people on Friday. I am flabbergasted. The Parks Department did not seem to understand why I had a problem. I am now scrambling to change activities and make a plan for crowd control. As of last night I was feeling on top of things, no problems, all the boxes being checked...it is a good thing this did not happen to a new Director. Experience is on my side.
The nice surprise of the day? I have had a “famous” person read the blog. From time to time I do check the stats on the blog. Often it does not list who has visited, sometimes I am taken aback. For instance, I know that the Yarn Harlothas read the blog on more than one occasion, and yesterday Mason-Dixoncame a calling. This is not a big deal to anyone but me. It makes me feel like I am becoming part of the community. It is a good feeling.
Community is a good thing. A very good thing.
So is advance notice that 500 people will be descending on the field you thought you'd have for a day camp! I hope the situation was sorted out.
Shabbat shalom.

And I forgot to ask - are you still looking for kippot patterns? I've been working on a project that spit out a few new ones. Let me know where you are in your book project.
