About 7:30 this morning I walked into the kitchen, poured the last cup of tea (for this pot) and put it into the microwave to warm it up. It was at this point I realized that Oldest Son should have been awake at least 30 minutes ago. He was going to miss his bus. I thought about waking him up, but there was really no point. Even if he got up right that very minute, he was still going to miss the bus.
Up till now, when he missed the bus I would drop what I was doing, wake up his little brother and the three of us would climb into the cold car and drive him to school. Well I did not feel like it this morning. No good reason. He’s practically a grown up, he can figure this out. 10 minutes later he is upstairs and informs me that he has just missed his bus.
I said, “Its OK, you can take the next one.”
He said, “I’ll be late.”
“Yeah, you’ll be late, its OK.”
He looked at me like I was the most unreasonable person he had ever laid eyes on. With luck this will be a life lesson and he will not be missing that bus again any time soon.
