OK, I am feeling much better today.
There were some questions about why untwisting the twist does not work. If, on the very first round, you twist your stitches, the result is that you are knitting some stitches top down and some stitches bottom up. When you try to line everything up, you get the twist. Does that make sense? If not, let me know. I will have Youngest Daughter video me taking the stitches off the needles and try to explain in a more visual way.
For now, I will return to Longest Night and wait until I have forgotten the betrayal of the 626 stitch cast on. I am hoping it is like birthing the first couple of kids. Your memory softens the pain. BTW, that only works for the first couple of kids. I did the first 3 kids sans drugs. I ordered the pain meds along with the pregnancy test for #4.
I've twisted CO stitches before, but never on a 600+ caston. I'm so sorry. Deep breaths, some calming music, wine if you like the stuff. Definitely chocolate. Whatever helps.

I think you should hand it over & have someone else rip it out for you so you don't have to watch the horror. I hope it all works out for you with it.
