I used to be the kind of person that knit 16-20 pairs of socks a year. Every couple of weeks a new pair slid off the needles and into someone's drawer. This year began in much the same way. At the end of February I had knit 3 pairs of socks. I cast on for another and then hit a wall. A big, hard, thick wall.
I have been working on the same pair of socks since the end of February. Yes, they did go through a number of patterns and more than one ripping, but still. It had gotten to the point where I was embarrassed to bring them to knitters guild because I had been bringing them month after month and the first sock was not complete. I actually cast on a new project to bring to last month's meeting so that I did not have to admit to my lack of progress.
Yesterday I finally said "enough already". Early in the day I pulled the sock out of the bag. It was knit just past the gusset. I plopped myself on the couch and knit until the foot was done. A size 13 foot! Then I took Youngest Son out to dinner, came home and cast on sock #2. I managed a few inches before my thumbs starting cramping up.
Not bad! I have set a new goal to get these done by the end of the month. I feel positive I can do it. It would be so nice to start the fall season with socks that I have not been working on since last winter.
