Yesterday morning I finished the second bobbin of Oasis. No pictures were taken, it was still dark. Plying was done, the yarn had a little bath and was then set on the deck rail to dry. Later in the afternoon, dark again, I realized it had been raining and I had yarn outside. Doh! I walked out to retrieve it, but it was gone. What? How can this be? I left it right here. It is not windy, even if it was windy, it is raining, the yarn weighs more now than it did when I set it on the rail. Did it fall? The flashlight tells me no. The yarn is gone. Picture me standing on the deck, in the rain, with a flashlight, completely perplexed. Then I see it. The yarn is about 8 feet away from the place I left it and in a tangled mass. This is not wind damage. Something tried to carry it off and then gave up. Thank goodness it gave up.
Superwash BFL, colorway Oasis, from Southern Cross Fibers. Destined to become Babouches.
When I first saw Babouches I knew I wanted to make a pair. I bought the pattern and began thinking about yarn. Some time later I actually read the pattern and learned it is toe-up. Y'all know that I am a big, quivering in the corner, toe-up wussy. I have tried the whole magic cast on thing and it only kinda worked. I think the problem is that I am using double points, not circs. But I really do want to make Babouches, so I am off to watch videos and do my best to conquer this beast. Wish me luck.
Good luck! I do the Turkish cast on on one long circular needle. It freaked me right out at first. I watched a very short video repeatedly then I found a step by step photo tutorial. Then I did it and I could not believe how farking easy it was. I know people have strong feelings about DPNs, two circs, magic loop etc. but it was so unbelievably easy, stupid easy once I did it that I was a bit ashamed of myself for freaking out so hard. I believe there are videos of the Turkish cast on out there and it can be done on dpns. You can do it!

I am not fond of toe-up. The ABSOLUTELY, HANDS-DOWN BEST cast on I have ever used is in Miriam Felton's Twist and Knit book. It's the only one will use.

I have done toe-up on dpns. i used Wendy Johnson's toe-up feather and fan pattern (freebie) and it worked really well. So don't let the dpns stop you.
That yarn is stunning. I'd want to try and run off with it, too!!

Love the yarn! Thank goodness critter decided to leave it. Doing test knitting for Sock Madness has gotten me over my toe-up fears but I freely admit I still don't like to do toe-up. Those are so pretty. They'll be well worth it!
