This vacation came on in a hurry. Late Tuesday night we received a phone call letting us know that Husband's Father would be having his birthday party that very weekend. Thursday we were on an airplane heading south.
Sparrow was still easy knitting and I knew that would be my destination knitting.
I added a few inches while enjoying the sunshine and warm air, and am now at the point where it is time to start button holes. I still love it and am cautiously optimistic that I will actually wear the finished garment.
There was a bit of panick when I realized I would need plane knitting. I did not have a small project on needles and I did not want to start a pair of socks. What to knit? What to knit? Then I remembered that Oldest Daughter had asked for a particular pair of mitts. These mitts are the last thing I would ever chose to knit for her. They have flowers and beads and are pink. She loves them! Go figure.
I knit the first cuff the night before we left. By the time we had landed (with 2 or 3 minutes to spare) I had finished the first mitt. It still needs flowers, but it fits. I had neglected to bring some waste yarn and a needle to deal with the thumb gusset. Improvisation is one skill a Knitter can not live without.
I began the second mitt on the trip home, but did not get very far.
Blame it on the cold. And the fact that Alaska had a vegan/gluten free picnic box option. I do not normally eat on flights, but felt the need to support their effort.
The pattern is Floral Fingerless Gloves from Socks Yarn One Skein Wonders. The pattern is the purple one at the top of the cover. The back of the hand has a textured vase and there will be little knit flowers with beaded centers along the hand. Stems are sewn on at the end. The yarn is Hazel Knits Artisan Sock, colorway Tulip.
The cold is still a presence and I have not felt like doing much knitting since returning home. As I sit here, feeling icky, I can see my wheel and the almost finshed bobbin of yarn for April's Socks. That is tomorrow's post.
